The Employee Value Proposition asks the question “Why would talented and innovative individuals want to work for this company?”. Essentially, what value does the employer bring to a prospective employee and how is that value communicated?

Now ask yourself the same question, why are you working for the organization you are with now? What value do you see in working for them? Is how much you are paid the first thing that popped into your head? Likely not. You probably envisioned how you “felt” about the company. What about it makes me feel good about working there? Is it the way that leadership treats all employees with empathy? Is it the flexible work arrangement that gives you confidence your employer trusts you? It could be that you connect with their mission-focused approach to business solutions? Or perhaps you share the same passion for corporate social responsibility?

In a tight labor market, employees look beyond compensation and benefits and seek connection . They want to work for a company they believe in and can say they are proud to represent the employer’s brand. But just as with most great products and services, the marketing is everything . In the Talent Acquisition space, it’s how passive candidates, those that aren’t actively looking for new employment, take notice of your company and think, “I’d like to work there”, even though they are content in their position.

How a business is viewed publicly is taken seriously by job-seekers considering most check out Glassdoor reviews before accepting first-stage interviews. An employer’s brand goes beyond how they portray themselves to customers, it’s also how the employees who work there are valued by the leaders the company supports.

To compete organizations must not only know how to develop a strong EVP, but more importantly, learn how to communicate their brand in an authentic way. Attracting talent that fits with the organizational culture allows people to be their authentic selves, which leads to a positive work environment. And I always say….Happy Humans Drive Innovation!
